Zona Zamfirova

The musical "Zona Zamfirova", which premiered at the end of 2012 at the Terazije Theatre, brings a completely fresh, bold and unexpected perspective on Stevan Sremac's celebrated novel. The creative team, led by director Kokan Mladenović, made a conscious departure from the stereotypical interpretation of this Serbian "Romeo and Juliet", placing a sharp focus on the stark class divisions of the newly liberated Serbia and a rich musical and theatrical expression that transcends traditional folklore.

Ivan Bosiljčić delivered a brilliant performance as the goldsmith Mane, a proud representative of the lower social class fighting for the love of a wealthy merchant's daughter. His interpretation — infused with outstanding vocal passages and powerful dramatic charge — earned him the Sterija Award (2013) for best performance, one of the most prestigious accolades in Serbian theatre. The musical was also named best production at the Days of Comedy festival in Jagodina.
